Priestly Ordination, 2026.

During the Priestly Ordination, the Archbishop shared a meaningful message based on Isaiah 61:1, as reflected in Luke 4:18: “The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me; he has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and to comfort those who mourn.” He explained that this passage is not just a prophecy but serves as the mission directive for every newly ordained priest. He highlighted that the priesthood continues Christ’s anointing, with the Holy Spirit empowering priests to act as agents of mercy, reconciliation, and hope in a hurting world.

The Archbishop began by expressing sincere thanks to the Rectors of Seminaries, acknowledging their vital role in forming priests. He recognized the often unseen and unacknowledged sacrifices these formators make in guiding seminarians through years of intellectual, spiritual, and pastoral development. Their commitment, he noted, ensures the Church receives shepherds who are not only theologically knowledgeable but also spiritually mature and pastorally caring.

In his message, the Archbishop encouraged the newly ordained to stay true to their divine mission. “You are sent,” he said, “not in your own name, but in the name of Christ, anointed by the same Spirit.” He warned against the dangers of clericalism, careerism, or seeking comfort, reminding them that their calling is one of service, humility, and self-giving. Priests, he emphasized, must be “closer to the people,” especially those who are marginalized, grieving, or spiritually in need.

He ended by urging them to develop a strong prayer life, remain faithful to the Gospel, and trust fully in the Holy Spirit. “The Spirit who anointed you,” he assured, “will support you if you stay open to His guidance.” Their mission, he affirmed, is to bring good news through both words and actions, making Christ’s mercy evident in every aspect of their ministry.
