Pope Leo XIV’s First Encyclical Published
The Papal Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, issued by Pope Leo XIV in May 2026, seeks to safeguard the human person and preserve human dignity in the age of artificial intelligence. It aims to promote truth, social justice, peace, and the dignity of work while warning against an AI-driven “culture of power” that threatens human-centered community. The encyclical particularly strives to ban or severely restrict the use of AI in warfare, declaring that removing human control from weaponry makes war unjustifiable under the “just war” theory. Finally, it calls humanity to choose between building prideful “Babel” through remote, AI-dominated power and rebuilding “Jerusalem” through respectful, communal, and ethically guided technology use.
