OWERRI ARCHDIOCESAN PASTORAL COUNCIL (OAPC)
- WHO ARE WE?
The Owerri Archdiocesan Pastoral Council (OAPC) is an advisory body which serves to assist the Archbishop in his pastoral duties and agenda. Although the entirety of the Archdiocese is united in our baptismal mission, we enjoy a uniquely diverse population that brings a myriad of perspectives, viewpoints, and concerns to every Archdiocese related issue. Consulting with the OAPC allows the Archbishop to draw upon this rich diversity in his governance of the local church as the pastoral leader of the Archdiocese.
- MISSION
- To serve as a consultative group for the pastoral duties of the Archbishop.
- Provide communication between the Archbishop and the local lay leaders.
- Support the Archdiocesan process of renewal.
- Discuss and implement the way forward towards the Pastoral growth of the Archdiocese.
- MEMBERS
The Owerri Archdiocesan Pastoral Council delegates include all Parish Vicars, appointed lay representatives from each of the Pastoral regions of the Archdiocese, Catholic Women Organisation representatives, Youth Council, pastoral associates, directors of Religious Education, religious orders, and deacons.
- SELECTION
The Parish Priests appoint some delegates from the Parish Pastoral Council to represent the Parishes in the Archdiocesan level. Amongst the appointed delegates, the Archbishop appoints the President, Secretary, and Treasurer to form the three main EXCO offices of the Owerri Archdiocesan Pastoral Council while other offices are by election.
- TERMS OF OFFICE
Appointed members stay in office for three years and can only be renewed once.
- MEETINGS
The OAPC meeting is normally held twice in a year at the Archdiocesan Jubilee Hall situated in within the Archdiocesan Secretariat Compund.
Prior to the council meeting, the Archbishop presides a meeting with the EXCO members alone. The secretary takes the minutes of the meeting to be addressed at the general council meeting when held. Moreover, Information and decisions taken at the EXCO meeting will be addressed accurately to the general council body (OAPC).
- CESSATION OF THE PASTORAL COUNCIL (OAPC)
The Owerri Archdiocesan Pastoral Council does not cease to exist. The elected council members at the expiration of their tenure are replaced with new appointed members from the different Parishes/Chaplaincies and Institutions of the Archdiocese by the Archbishop.

OWERRI ARCHDIOCESAN FINANCE COUNCIL (OAFC)
- WHO ARE WE?
The Owerri Archdiocesan Finance Council (OAFC) is one of the consultative councils of the Archdiocese, along with the Pastoral Council. It is a required canonical body, established by the Archbishop for the purpose of advising and assisting him in financial matters in accord with the norms of canon law.
- MISSION
The OAFC is responsible for;
- Advising the Archbishop on the development and implementation of strategies designed to ensure the financial soundness of the Archdiocese.
- Overseeing (but not managing) Archdiocesan financial operations and condition.
- Assisting the Archbishop in achieving openness and transparency in Archdiocesan financial reporting.
- MEMBERS
The Owerri Archdiocesan Finance Council delegates includes the financial secretaries and treasurers from different organizations and groups in different parishes, chaplaincies, press and institutions, six members of the financial commission, representatives from the Presbyterial Council and professionals in accounting from different works of life.
- SELECTION
The parish priests, head of institutions and directors selects their different treasures and financial secretaries to represent in the Archdiocesan level. The Archbishop appoints accounting professionals from different institutions and parastatals to be among the delegates. Amongst the appointed delegates, the Archbishop also appoints the president, secretary, and treasurer to form the three main EXCO offices of the Owerri Archdiocesan Financial Council.
- TERMS OF OFFICE
Appointed members stay in office until after a period of three years and renewable after six years.
- MEETINGS
The OAFC meeting is normally held twice (25th of January and 17th of October) in a year at the Archdiocesan Jubilee Hall situated in Assumpta Cathedral.
Prior to the council meeting, the Archbishop presides a meeting with the EXCO members alone. The secretary takes the minutes of the meeting to be addressed at the general council meeting when held. Moreover, Information and decisions taken at the EXCO meeting will be addressed accurately to the general council body (OAFC).
- CESSATION OF THE FINANCIAL COUNCIL (OAFC)
The Owerri Archdiocesan Finance Council does not cease to exist. The members of this council at the expiration of their tenure are replaced with newly elected members unless any of the offices is renewed for a second tenure.
