Priests’ Fitness Tournament

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri is bringing football fever to the altar with the Priests’ Fitness Tournament, where cassocks collide and the clergy chase glory on the pitch.
Holy Boot and Soccer Glory
-
Forget Sunday sermons—these priests are trading the pulpit for penalty kicks and prayer robes for goalie gloves.
-
Group A’s “Team Bishop Whelan,” “Team Bishop Unegbu,” and “Team Msgr Nwanegbo” will battle for spiritual supremacy. At the same time, Group B sees “Team Archbishop Ugorji,” “Team Archbishop Obinna,” and “Team Bishop Chikwe” vying for a place in the semi-finals.
-
The stakes? Bragging rights all year—plus the honor of being crowned the holiest hotshot in Owerri!
Match Schedule Magic
-
Matches kick off at 4 PM sharp at Maria Assumpta Cathedral Play Ground—where faithful fans will cheer as priests sprint, slide-tackle, and (hopefully) keep red cards out of the confessional.
-
Don’t miss the group-stage drama all through August and September, leading to a divine showdown in the semi-finals—and after an October Devotion break, the grand finale on November 17th.
Behind The Whistle
-
A power-packed lineup orchestrates the event: Sports Director Rev. Fr. Martin Agu, Sports Manager Rev. Fr. Killian Eke, and Coach Rev. Fr. Eustace Okere—clearly, the Holy Spirit’s got bench strength.
Why It’s a Must-See
-
Where else can spectators witness bishops and archbishops going for goal, or a monsignor perfecting his free-kick technique, all in the joyful spirit of fitness and fellowship?
-
Expect laughter, skill, friendly competition, and maybe a little miraculous footwork.
Get ready to shout “GOOOAAALLL-lelujah!” as Owerri’s finest clergy take the field and prove once and for all that faith and football make a winning team
